Book Week at Chase Lane Primary School
The school has had enormous fun celebrating Book Week, which actually lasted two weeks!
For Foundation and Key Stage 1 children, a fantastic company called ‘West End in Schools’ offered exciting and interactive workshops with the focus being 'Where the wild things are'. Key Stage 2 children participated in interactive workshops with the theme being 'Charlie and the chocolate factory'. All children were involved in acting out the stories and interacting with these quality texts.
Potato Book Character competition
We also ran a competition for all children to participate in. Using a potato, the children were asked to produce their favourite book character. They were asked to decorate/dress/paint their potato to look like a character from a story, either a character from a nursery rhyme , fairy tale, fiction book, or any children’s book character. Our Year 6 prefects were given the all-important job of judging the potatoes and each year group was awarded a prize for the best potato book character.
Travelling Book Fair
The London Travelling Book Fair was available after school for a whole week. We were so encouraged by the amount of children and their parents who supported the Fair. Book sales were phenomenal, thanks to the generosity of our parents/carers. The children purchased so many lovely books and the school benefited enormously from the purchases.
